CHS Woodworking Club

By Steve Pratt, CHS Teacher and Woodworking Club Advisor

Our club meets Thursdays after school in room 1135, focusing on projects that can be completed in one-hour chunks. We’ve had over 20 students participate, with 10-12 regular attendees. We may be small, but we are mighty.

We’ve completed three projects so far. First, we made small holiday trees in December, practicing measuring, cutting angles, and using a nail gun. Although we ran out of time for a fundraiser, it was great practice.

Second, we built a theatre set for the Asian Student Union, constructing a mini house frame with 2x4s.

Currently, we’re working on a custom commission for a behind-the-couch table using solid oak, biscuits, fasteners, and glue—our first hardwood piece.
Additionally, we built birdhouses with the school’s green team, which will be installed in the Cleveland Memorial Forest this spring.
Exciting news: Cleveland will offer three woodshop classes next year! Details are still TBD, but we’ll keep the club going and update the Alumni Association.

Yours in woodworking, Mr. Pratt
